Upon picking up Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and reading it, I was somewhat doubtful.
I had read Tithe and Ironside by Holly Black (both fictional depictions of the Fae) and thought them wonderful books
because of how well crafted they were. But Never, never has a book made me fall in "love" with the Faerie.
Until now.
Wicked Lovely stars Aislinn who is a very likable character.
She is headstrong (a little too so sometimes) and very independent.
The reason for my initial uncertainty was that this book bore a character
who resented the Fae.
This book was so different, so unique that I knew that it was going to be either a hit or miss.
It was, by all means, a hit.
I loved this book so much. It opened my heart and mind
to the Faerie in such a way that no other author has done before.
To make a reader so in love with a mythological race as Tolkien did is a great achievement indeed!
In addition, the fact that Miss Marr cares for her subsidiary characters (not just the foremost ones) made me quite pleased as well. As it happens, Donia (my favorite character in this novel) and Keenan come into romantic relations with one another- thus, making me immeasurably happy.
The world that is crafted here within the pages of Wicked Lovely is like no other.
Prepare yourself for something fantastic, because that is truly what this is: Fantastic.
